Australian Wildfire Report
the Black Saturday Bushfires
On and around the 7th February 2009, areas of the Australian state of Victoria were struck by the worst bushfires in living memory. The local weather conditions were almost apocalyptic, with temperatures of up to 47 C, extremely low humidity, and gale force winds. This topic guide was derived from the report of the commission of inquiry into these fires and their aftermath.
Many people lost their lives in these fires, and this guide is published in the hope that this technique, or techniques like this, might assist in raising awareness of the threats and recommendations inherent in such documentary evidence, and perhaps inform a more appropriate policy.
